State Law requires children entering into public school have a minimum requirement of immunizations. The requirement allows for exclusion from school non-immunized children for a period of time equal to the longest period of communicability of the disease. Bright Smiles program takes unique, hands on approach to preventive oral health care. Bright Smiles program coordinator and volunteers assist in educating the K-2 school aged children on oral health education. School children brush their teeth before school starts and after breakfast is served. During annual elementary school health screening it has been observed that since implementing the Bright Smiles program, decay in teeth of 1st and 3rd graders have dropped from 62% in the fall of 2000 to 32%.

This program goes into the classroom where we focus on some of the basics of good health habits. Hand hygiene, nutrition education, physical activity all are kid friendly and focus on long term habits for developing minds and bodies.
